School History

In August 2011, a new chapter in education began with the opening of Wellington Elementary. As a trailblazer in sustainable design and energy efficiency, we proudly established ourselves as Lexington's first environmentally conscious and forward-thinking school within Fayette County Public Schools.

Wellington Elementary's energy efficiency is aligned with Energy Star requirements. Our capability of harnessing the power of solar energy makes our building unique. Sunshine floods our classrooms and hallways, thanks to solar panels that provide abundant natural light while minimizing our carbon footprint. Beyond illuminating our spaces, these panels also play a role in heating our water systems, showcasing the multifaceted benefits of renewable energy.

The benefits of our sustainable practices extend directly to the learning experience.  Our scholars enjoy a more comfortable and conducive atmosphere for learning, with automatic electric lighting controls ensuring optimal illumination.  Solar lights create an inviting environment that supports their academic growth and fosters creativity.

As you explore our school and witness firsthand the integration of energy efficiency principles into every facet of our operations, we invite you to join us in embracing a brighter, sustainable tomorrow. At Wellington Elementary, we're not just nurturing young minds; we're working toward nurturing a healthier planet for generations to come.
